Varicose Haemorrhage
Varicose haemorrhage occurs when small varicose veins and spider veins near the surface of the skin are left untreated and become thin walled and fragile.
Causes
Small thin walled varicose veins or spider can rupture due to a very minor injury such as shaving your legs, showering or drying them with a towel and minor scratches while gardening are common scenarios. These veins may also rupture and bleed spontaneously.
Symptoms
The veins may bleed a small amount or blood may spurt from them.
Treatment
If bleeding occurs, it is important to apply pressure to the site of the bleeding and lay down with the leg elevated higher than the heart.
Sclerotherapy is usually successful in treating these veins and preventing further episodes of bleeding.
